Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, have climbed eight places in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking following their participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars are now ranked 65th in the world, up from 73rd in the previous rankings released before the tournament.
The latest rankings, published by FIFA on July 20, 2026, reflect Ghana’s performances during the global showpiece, where the team made its long-awaited return to the World Cup.
The improvement also strengthens Ghana’s standing on the African continent, placing the Black Stars among the continent’s higher-ranked national teams as they prepare for future international competitions.
Despite the rise in the rankings, Ghana’s World Cup campaign ended in the Round of 32 after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
Although the tournament ended in disappointment, Ghana’s return to football’s biggest stage marked an important milestone following the country’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The latest FIFA rankings provide a positive boost for the Black Stars and underline the progress made under the current setup. The team will now aim to build on this momentum with strong performances in upcoming international fixtures as preparations begin for future continental and global tournaments.
