AngloGold Ashanti (AGA), Obuasi Mine, has presented a cheque for GH₵1,000,000.00 to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Obuasi campus, to help expand its facilities to maintain high standards as its student population increases.

The Managing Director of AGA, Dr. Eric Asubonteng said the donation was in line with the company’s commitment to supporting the establishment and development of the only university campus in Obuasi.

AGA played a key role in the setting up of the university campus with the provision of it’s initial infrastructure by converting the former mine site for faculty activities.

Dr. Asubonteng said the mine was committed to contributing to the socioeconomic development of host communities through community investment

The donation, he said, was to help admit more students as the school introduces more courses.

“We see this collaboration as a key partnership to have this institution in our host communities, giving the youth the opportunity to have access to quality education from a reputable institution like KNUST,” he added.

The Managing Director explained that AGA was committed to enhancing educational facilities and supporting education as a discipline, covering teacher training, books donation, and strengthening institutional capabilities among others.

The University Relations Officer, KNUST, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, said the gesture would add up to existing facilities and help expand lecture halls and library facilities among others.

He said the KNUST had acquired a 100-acre land to relocate the Obuasi campus to a bigger space as the number increases.

Dr. Bekoe expressed gratitude to AGA for the gesture and called for more support to help in the establishment of more facilities to meet standards.
