The Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, is scheduled to be sworn into office on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

Baba Jamal won the Ayawaso East by-election held on March 3, 2026, securing the parliamentary seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a Facebook post announcing the upcoming ceremony on March 9, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent the constituency and pledged to work closely with residents to promote development in the area.

He described the opportunity to serve as humbling and expressed optimism about collaborating with constituents to build a stronger future for the community.

During the by-election, Baba Jamal obtained 10,884 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Yusif Ali Baba, who received 4,009 votes.

Other contenders included independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda, who secured 1,885 votes; Ibrahim Idrissu with 43 votes; and Kanor David, who polled 104 votes.

In total, 16,928 valid votes were recorded, with 120 ballots rejected, bringing the overall number of votes cast to 17,048.

The by-election was conducted to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant following the death of the constituency’s former MP, Mahama Naser Toure, in January.

Once sworn in, Baba Jamal will officially assume his duties in Parliament and represent the people of Ayawaso East.
