Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office but was later asked to return for additional procedures, according to his legal team.
Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, May 7, former Attorney General and legal counsel for Aludiba, Godfred Yeboah Dame, confirmed that his client was initially released on Wednesday, May 6, and instructed to report back to EOCO the following morning.
Mr Dame explained that Aludiba complied with the directive and arrived at EOCO around 10 a.m. accompanied by his lawyers. He dismissed suggestions that his client’s absence had delayed the process, insisting that they had fully cooperated with investigators.
According to him, EOCO officials later informed them that they needed to wait for the agency’s Executive Director, who was reportedly unavailable at the time. After some time, they were told they could leave.
However, Mr Dame said the legal team subsequently received another message requesting that they return to EOCO for further processes.
He noted that Aludiba and his lawyers had since returned to the EOCO premises and were cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The development follows controversy surrounding the recent decision by the Attorney General’s office to discontinue criminal charges against the former NAFCO boss and his wife after investigators reportedly uncovered new evidence.
Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai has defended the withdrawal of the charges, describing it as a routine legal step when fresh evidence emerges during investigations.
However, Mr Dame has criticised the move, raising concerns about the handling of criminal prosecutions and investigative processes in the country.
