The Korle Bu Doctors Association has called off its strike action following renewed engagement with management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

In a letter signed by its Chairman, Dr Asare Offei, the Association announced the suspension of the industrial action, which had begun on Monday, May 4, 2026.

According to the statement, the decision was reached after a meeting with hospital management, during which assurances were given that Laboratory Physicians would be allowed to return to work at the Central Laboratory. The Association noted that collaboration between Laboratory Physicians and Medical Laboratory Scientists is essential for effective healthcare delivery.

KODA has therefore directed its members to resume Out-Patient Department (OPD) services from Tuesday, May 5.

The strike action stemmed from concerns raised on April 30, when KODA accused management of unlawfully excluding Laboratory Physicians—including pathologists, haematologists, and microbiologists—from the hospital’s Central Laboratory.

The Association warned that the situation threatened patient safety, professional standards, and the overall delivery of healthcare. It also alleged that some members had faced threats of physical harm.

KODA further rejected claims that Laboratory Physicians are a recent addition to Ghana’s health system, emphasising their long-standing role in clinical care and medical training, in line with international best practices.

The Association had demanded the immediate reinstatement of affected physicians and an investigation into the reported incidents before deciding to embark on the now-suspended strike.
