Justina Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), has begun a familiarisation tour of selected quarry companies in Accra to gain firsthand insight into their operations and challenges.

Her visit included Regimanuel Grey Company Limited at Ablekuma, Massey Stone Ghana Limited at Shai Hills, and Eastern Quarries Limited, also at Shai Hills. The initiative aims to foster cordial relationships and explore strategic ways the Fund can support the sector.

Mrs. Nelson explained that the tour will cover not just medium and large-scale gold mines, but also quarries, sand mining, graphite, and critical minerals to better track royalties and address operational challenges. She emphasized that such field visits will be a regular feature to ensure smooth operations and effective engagement with royalty-paying companies.

During the visits, company management highlighted challenges including land encroachment and unrealistic demands from local communities. Mrs. Nelson assured the firms of MIIF’s support, noting that the Fund collaborates with intergovernmental agencies and local municipal authorities to address encroachments. She added that when such issues are resolved and companies fulfil their corporate social responsibilities, operations can proceed smoothly.
