The Ghana Immigration Service will recruit only 1,000 applicants from more than 180,000 young people who applied in its recent recruitment exercise, according to the Ministry of the Interior Ghana.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, March 11, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, the Minister for the Interior, said the high number of applications highlights the growing demand for employment among Ghana’s youth.
He explained that although a large number of applicants expressed interest in joining the service, the institution’s existing infrastructure and logistical capacity limit the number of recruits it can accommodate.
According to the minister, the Ghana Immigration Service currently has a total staff strength of about 18,300 officers, from the Comptroller-General to the lowest-ranked personnel.
Mr Muntaka noted that the service’s training and accommodation facilities can only support around 1,000 new recruits in the current exercise.
He added that the situation reflects the intense competition for positions within Ghana’s security services and underscores the wider challenge of job creation for the country’s growing youth population.
