The Parliament of Ghana has officially concluded discussions on the 2026 State of the Nation Address delivered by John Dramani Mahama on February 27, 2026.

The debate wrapped up on Wednesday, March 11, after leaders of both the Majority and Minority caucuses delivered their closing statements, according to a post on Parliament’s official Facebook page.

During the session, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, criticised the government’s decision to purchase a presidential jet while several hospital projects remain unfinished. He also expressed concern about the government’s promise to create jobs for youth, noting that many young people were unable to participate in recent security recruitment exercises due to limited internet access. Additionally, he condemned the reduction in the cocoa producer price, saying it has negatively affected cocoa farmers’ livelihoods.

In response, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga defended the administration’s policies, highlighting that cocoa producer prices are at record levels. He explained that higher global chocolate prices are now benefiting farmers in Sefwi, Enchi, and Tepa, and that the government’s approach aims to restore dignity to agriculture, promote local industrialisation, and position “Made in Ghana” products as globally competitive.

The debate concluded with Parliament adopting the motion on the 2026 SONA. The motion was moved by Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Central, and seconded by John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, signalling cross-party support for the President’s 2026 policy agenda.
