The Black Queens of Ghana have been placed in Group C for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they will face title holders South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.

Ghana secured their qualification to the tournament after defeating Namibia’s Brave Gladiators in their final match last year, earning a spot in Morocco.

Coach Nora Hauptel, who was appointed to lead the senior team after a lengthy hiatus, returned to the continental competition and ended Ghana’s five-year absence from WAFCON. The Swiss coach, who has gained widespread support in Ghana, is set to assemble a strong squad for the tournament.

This year’s edition will be Ghana’s eighth appearance at WAFCON, with the team aiming to win the coveted title for the first time. Their best performance came in the 2006 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations when they reached the final but lost to Nigeria 1-0.

The 2024 WAFCON is scheduled to take place from July 5 to 26, 2025, in Morocco.
