Asante Kotoko is not a big team- Coach Mariano

Judging from the utterances about Asante Kotoko made by Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto, he may be on his way out the club.

Mariano made a controversial statement that is expected to irk Kotoko’s large fan base. This follows after saying Kotoko’s Adako Jachie training ground is unbefitting of a big club because players ease themselves in bushes.

According to the Former Black Stars coach, Kotoko is only a big name and not a big team, as they are usually referred to.

In an interview with Nhyira FM, Barreto said, “I know Kotoko fans won’t be happy with this but I must say it. Asante Kotoko is only a big name and not a big team because they lack so many things a big team should be having.”

He further said, “A big team should be having their own physiotherapy room, a strong youth team, philosophy, video room amongst other infrastructure.”

Mr Barreto was appointed by the club in March with the hope that his experience would help the club win the Ghanaian Premier League and MTN FA Cup but after a great start, his side suffered a dip in form and that saw them lose the top spot in the league to fierce rivals Hearts of Oak and get kicked out of the cup competition at the semi-finals stage by Berekum Chelsea.
