The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, says 82 per cent of the active COVID-19 cases in the country were asymptomatic and were therefore being managed at home.

According to him, as at July 21, of the total 3,505 active cases in the country, only 18 per cent were symptomatic and were therefore being managed at treatment and isolation facilities in the country.

Briefing the press on the country’s COVID-19 management system, Dr Kuma-Aboagye said of the 18 per cent who were symptomatic, 26 were in severe conditions, eight in critical conditions, while four were on ventilators.

He mentioned that 559 new cases spanning from June 23 to July 17 had brought the country’s cumulative cases to 28,989.

The new cases, according to Mr Kuma-Aboagye were recorded in 36 districts in 8 regions.

He added that the total recoveries were now 25,331, while 153 total deaths had been recovered.

He said the country had so far conducted 353,752 tests since the first case was recorded on March 12.
