Mr. Charles Forson, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema Central, has assured young people in his constituency of his plans to partner with corporate institutions to provide job opportunities for them.

Mr. Forson emphasized that he would continue to use his influence to connect young people with corporate organizations, industries, and investors willing to support employment initiatives.

He highlighted the growing concern of youth unemployment in the country and noted that private-sector partnerships were crucial in addressing joblessness among young people, particularly in industrial areas like Tema. “If we can empower about 500 to 1000 youth, it is going to transform their lives. Today, a good brother of mine called me to say that I should bring in 50 to 70 boys for factory work. I’m talking to people; if we’re able to reduce unemployment, it will go a long way to change the economic cycle of the people, he stated.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, he emphasized the importance of skills training and entrepreneurship, adding that he was taking steps to engage companies on providing apprenticeships and on-the-job training programmes for the youth in the Tema Central Constituency.  He assured the youth of his commitment to lobby for more investment in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the constituency.

He also stressed the importance of the welfare of women, particularly market women, considering their role in the socio-economic development of the area, emphasizing the need for support systems that would enable them to grow and sustain their businesses to ensure community development and economic stability of the constituency.

“It is about the youth and women; once we can give employment support to the youth and a syndicated loan facility for our women, it will help others.  If you give somebody GHS 2000 and tell the person to pay 10 percent a month, where is the person going to get it from? But if you give a person GHS 2000 or GHS 5000 and you tell the person, Don’t pay interest, pay over one year, that’s real support.”

Mr. Forson mentioned that already, almost all food vendors in the communities, particularly plantain and kenkey sellers, have been supported financially or supplied with items needed for their business to thrive, pledging that he would ensure business in the constituency succeeds.
