OLAG SHS raises funds to secure its future

The Management of Our Lady of Grace (OLAG) Senior High School (SHS) at Mamponteng in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has organised an endowment fundraiser to secure the future of the school.

The initiative is part of a long-term sustainability plan for the school, which is mostly funded by donors from the United States of America (USA). Reverend Father (Fr) Sylvester Frimpong, the Headmaster of the school in an address to participants, said the Catholic school was a non-profit institution.

The schools, according to him, were established by the benevolence of a couple in the USA through their parish, to offer a comprehensive 21^st century education that would equip students with relevant theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

This, Fr Frimpong indicated, would enhance the abilities of students to be innovative and business-minded to create a meaningful future for themselves and others. Additionally, he said students were nurtured to become change agents and responsible citizens of the country. He said the school offered all its students a 20 percent discount on their school fees so that they would have equal access to quality education. 

Fr Frimpong mentioned that through the generosity of donors, other students who faced extreme financial challenges benefited from between 30 and100 percent financial support based on the outcome of a need assessment. Due to these support and benefits rendered to students, Fr Frimpong said the school has birthed 2,018 graduates with 400 graduates being offered different forms of financial assistance for tertiary0 education in Ghana.

Also, he mentioned that in 2024, all the students at the school gained admission into the tertiary school level to further their education. Fr Frimpong expressed concerns about the survival of the school when support from the two major donors ceased in the future. “What will happen to OLAG in the future when the support from abroad ceases? Which of the benefits we see today will future students come to enjoy?

What is the sustainability plan?” he asked. To address future concerns about the sustainability of the school, Fr Frimpong said the Adomma Endowment Fund was launched about four years ago to raise funds annually.  He appealed to all stakeholders to support the initiative to secure financial support for the school against future occurrences.

Fr Frimpong thanked the major donors, the chiefs of Mamponteng, the Rise and Shine Foundation in the USA, partners and other key stakeholders who have so far contributed to the growth and development of the school.
