The GNAT/CTF/FCE Teaching Together Project, a partnership between the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF), has provided professional development training to 305 teachers from four regions.
The idea that “teachers teaching teachers to teach” is the foundation of the initiative, which places an emphasis on peer learning. It aims to encourage peer knowledge sharing and improve teachers’ pedagogical skills, knowledge, and classroom practices. The first group of over 600 teachers scheduled for project training is this one. The second group is expected to start on Monday, July 21.

During the closing ceremony, Moses Amadu Baman Sr., GNAT’s Deputy General Secretary in charge of Education and Professional Development, stated that the training was intended to provide teachers, particularly those in disadvantaged and underserved areas, with teaching competencies relevant to the 21st century.
He emphasized GNAT’s dedication to ongoing professional development, stating that, as a professional teacher union, GNAT is committed to lifelong learning to ensure that its members remain relevant in a global teaching environment that is constantly changing.
He went on to say that GNAT, a union that is resilient, proactive, and driven by results, is determined not to disappoint the Ghanaian society that has entrusted its future to teachers. Rev.
The importance of teacher professionalism, which is a fundamental principle enshrined in the constitution of the Association, was also emphasized by Isaac Owusu, the President of GNAT. He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the national leadership to members’ ongoing training and development.
He urged participants to apply the knowledge acquired during the training in their classrooms to ensure improved learning outcomes for students.
Rev. Owusu also called on members to take active interest in the activities of the Association, stressing that their funds directly support such developmental programmes.
He reminded them that GNAT, regardless of any changes in leadership, would always remain the vehicle through which their welfare and working conditions are advanced.
