Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta, has filed a petition with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) seeking an inquiry into Supreme Court Judge Yonny Kulendi and Richard Jakpa over alleged attempts to influence the “Republic v. Cassiel Ato Forson & 2 Others” trial.
In a letter dated September 29, 2025, addressed to the CID Director-General, Ofori-Atta alleged that Jakpa, who is standing trial, leveraged his family ties with Justice Kulendi to interfere with the prosecution.
The petition claims Justice Kulendi personally engaged former Attorney-General Godfred Dame in efforts to weaken or halt Jakpa’s prosecution. Ofori-Atta pointed to trial records indicating Jakpa’s communications with the Attorney-General through Kulendi, including 68 WhatsApp messages and reported attempts by the judge to arrange meetings at his residence to sway prosecutorial decisions.
According to Ofori-Atta, such conduct constitutes criminal interference with justice under Ghana’s Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). He has therefore called for a full investigation and prosecution in line with the law.
Supporting documents attached to the petition include trial transcripts from June 6, 18, 20, and 27, 2024, as well as WhatsApp exchanges between Jakpa and the former Attorney-General.
Ofori-Atta further stated that he is prepared to submit additional evidence and assist the CID in its investigations.
