President John Dramani Mahama has nominated five individuals to serve on Ghana’s Fiscal Council in accordance with the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136).
The announcement was made in a statement dated Wednesday, April 8, 2026, and signed by the Minister of Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The nominees include Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah as Chairperson, Prof. Patrick Opoku Asuming representing academia, and Leslie Dwight Mensah from a research think tank. The list also features J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert at the Ministry of Finance, and Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former Bank of Ghana official.
The Fiscal Council is intended to strengthen fiscal discipline, enhance oversight, and support informed decision-making in the management of public finances.
Once constituted, the Council is expected to play a key role in promoting transparency, ensuring prudent fiscal policies, and providing guidance on economic matters.
The move reflects the government’s commitment to reinforcing financial governance and improving overall economic management.
