President John Dramani Mahama has nominated three distinguished legal professionals for appointment to Ghana’s Supreme Court.

The nominees are Court of Appeal Justices Sophia Bernasko-Essah and Amoako Asante, alongside seasoned legal practitioner and former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Tony Forson.

Justice Amoako Asante previously served as President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice before returning to the Court of Appeal in Ghana.

The nominations were made in consultation with the Judicial Council, as required under the Constitution.

If Parliament approves the appointments, the number of Supreme Court justices will rise from 18 to 21, expanding the country’s highest court.

The three nominees are expected to undergo parliamentary vetting and approval before they can be sworn in as Justices of the Supreme Court.
