Organisers of The Literacy Challenge 2026, Channel One TV and Citi FM, have extended the deadline for entries to Thursday, July 30, 2026, to give more young people additional time to prepare and submit their applications.
The new deadline replaces the initial closing date of Monday, July 20, 2026. Interested participants now have until 5:00 p.m. on July 30 to submit their entries either to P.O. Box GP 14123, Accra-Central, or at the Channel One TV premises in Tesano, Accra.
The 2026 edition of the competition focuses on the theme of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Ghana’s education system, challenging participants to examine both the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of AI in teaching and learning.
Participants are required to write a letter of not less than 600 words addressed to the Minister of Education, presenting themselves as youth consultants. The essay must discuss the advantages and disadvantages of AI in education and provide recommendations on how Ghana can effectively integrate AI into basic schools while ensuring that students in rural and underserved communities are not left behind.
The overall winner of the competition will receive GH¢10,000 and a laptop.
The Literacy Challenge, which traditionally targeted Junior High School students, has in recent years expanded its eligibility to include young people between the ages of 11 and 15.
The competition will be conducted in three stages. The first stage involves essay submissions, after which the top 100 contestants will proceed to a written aptitude test in Accra.
The final stage will feature the top 48 participants, who will compete in groups of three in a quiz competition to determine the winners.
Organisers say the initiative seeks to promote literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, creativity and writing skills among young people while identifying and nurturing exceptional talent.
The winning regional team will receive a GH¢15,000 cash prize, with each member taking home GH¢5,000.
