Ajax rejects West Ham United’s second bid for Mohammed Kudus

West Ham United’s persistent pursuit of Ajax forward Mohammed Kudus has encountered further setbacks, as the London club’s second offer for the talented Ghanaian player has  been declined by the Dutch club.

The Hammers, under the guidance of manager David Moyes, have been actively seeking to bolster their attacking options and have focused their attention on securing Kudus for several weeks. The club’s technical director, Tim Steidten, even travelled to Amsterdam for face-to-face negotiations.

Ajax dismissed West Ham’s initial bid of €40 million (£34 million) over the weekend, expressing their desire for additional financial incentives linked to performance outcomes. However, the revised offer from West Ham has also met with rejection from Ajax. The Dutch side is reportedly seeking a higher sum, closer to €50 million (£42.5 million), setting the stage for ongoing discussions in pursuit of a resolution.

Brighton & Hove Albion had earlier secured a deal with Ajax for Kudus, a move that could have provided Europa League football, akin to West Ham’s proposition. Nonetheless, an agreement on personal terms eluded them, leading to an impasse.

Mohammed Kudus has garnered interest from other prominent Premier League clubs as well, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea. Ajax’s former manager, Erik ten Hag, has shown keenness to reunite with Kudus, having previously worked closely with the player during his tenure at the club.

While West Ham’s pursuit of Kudus remains ongoing, personal terms between the player and the London club are yet to be agreed upon. This opens the door for potential suitors to enter the fray before the transfer window concludes on September 1.

Following their lucrative sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal for a staggering £105 million, West Ham boasts significant financial resources.

The club has already made notable acquisitions, securing Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse. The duo made their debut appearance in West Ham’s impressive 3-1 victory over Chelsea at London Stadium on Sunday, with Ward-Prowse delivering two crucial assists for Nayef Aguerd and Michail Antonio.
