Ghana’s drive toward industrialisation and enterprise development has received a boost following the decision by the Design and Technology Institute to name its entrepreneurship hub after former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
The facility, located at the institute’s Berekuso campus, will be known as the “J. A. Kufuor Centre for Entrepreneurship,” recognising his long-standing advocacy for private sector-led growth.
Founder of the institute, Constance Swaniker, explained that the initiative is more than symbolic, describing the centre as a practical platform for driving business creation, job opportunities, and industrial transformation.
The hub forms part of a broader multi-skills campus designed to train thousands of young people each year, with a focus on entrepreneurship, technical training, and industry-focused innovation.
She noted that the centre will play a key role in nurturing sustainable enterprises, particularly among the youth, helping to tackle unemployment while strengthening Ghana’s productive capacity.
The initiative also highlights the need for stronger private sector involvement in skills development as Ghana works to shift from a raw material-based economy to one driven by manufacturing and value addition.
The naming of the centre is being framed as a “living legacy,” with its true impact to be measured by the number of businesses created and jobs sustained over time.
