The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has wrapped up a crucial one-day national qualifier designed to identify top athletes for the upcoming 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship.
The highly competitive event attracted participants from across the country, all vying for a spot on the national team. As one of Africa’s leading forces in armwrestling, Ghana ensured a strict selection process that assessed athletes based on strength, technique, and endurance.
Competitions were held across multiple weight divisions for both male and female athletes, spanning junior, senior, and masters categories.
A team of technical officials and national coaches, led by Technical Director Husseini Akutteh Addy, closely supervised the matches to ensure only the best performers earned places on the national team, popularly known as the “Golden Arms.”
GAF President and World Armwrestling Federation Vice President, Charles Osei Asibey, highlighted the notable improvement in competition standards since Ghana last hosted the continental championship.
Also present, Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Richard Akpokavie praised the federation for its professionalism and commitment to nurturing talent. He expressed confidence in the selected athletes, stating that their discipline and determination position them strongly to excel on the continental stage.
The 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship is scheduled for May 1–2, 2026, and will feature top competitors from across the continent. Ghana is aiming to finish at the top of the medal standings and reinforce its dominance in African armwrestling.
Following the selection, the national team will enter an intensive training camp to sharpen their skills ahead of the competition. The federation has also appealed to corporate organizations to support the team’s preparations as they aim for further success.
