The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year, covering schedules for both single-track and transitional school systems.
In a statement issued on June 1, GES urged parents, students, teachers, and school administrators to take note of the schedule and prepare adequately for the new academic year. The Service confirmed that the calendar has been finalized and is ready for implementation.
Under the single-track system, Form One and Form Two students will begin the first semester on September 18, 2026, running until January 29, 2027, after which they will break until March 29, 2027. The second semester will run from March 30 to July 30, 2027.
Form Three students will also begin on September 18, 2026, with their first semester ending on December 18, 2026. After a short break, they will resume on February 1, 2027, and complete the academic year on June 18, 2027.
For transitional schools, Form One students will alternate between face-to-face and online learning periods across different phases of the academic year, beginning in September 2026 and ending in August 2027. Form Two and Form Three students will also follow structured schedules combining in-person and online learning periods.
The calendar also outlines key breaks, including the Christmas vacation from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, and the Easter break from March 25 to March 30, 2027.
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is scheduled to take place from April 6 to June 18, 2027, while a short mid-semester break for Form Two students will occur in June 2027.
GES emphasized that the calendar is intended to ensure smooth academic planning and coordination across all senior high and technical schools in the country.
