The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized more than 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis with an estimated street value of GH¢1.18 million during a major anti-drug operation in the Volta Region.
The operation took place at Gbi-Wegbe, near Hohoe, following an intelligence-led investigation targeting suspected drug trafficking activities in the area.
According to NACOC, officers discovered and confiscated about 2,372.38 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis during a raid on a farmhouse and warehouse allegedly used to store illegal narcotics.
The early morning operation on Sunday, May 31, forms part of the Commission’s broader efforts to disrupt the production, transportation, and distribution of illicit drugs across Ghana.
In a statement shared on Monday, June 1, NACOC explained that the raid was carried out based on credible intelligence that led officers to the storage facility used to stockpile the suspected drugs.
The Commission added that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest individuals connected to the operation.
NACOC also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting communities and intensifying the fight against drug abuse and trafficking, describing it as a national priority.
