The Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has inaugurated six development projects valued at GH¢1,182,309.68 across four communities.
The projects include four mechanised boreholes in Awonakrom, Bediem, Kulem, and the Railways enclave, as well as an eight-seater washroom facility and a renovated kindergarten block at Bediem Experimental Basic School.
At the commissioning ceremony, the MCE urged residents to take responsibility for maintaining the facilities to ensure their longevity, noting that poor maintenance culture often undermines public investments. She emphasised that the projects are intended to serve the communities for the long term and must be properly cared for.
She attributed the successful execution of the projects to government support, expressing appreciation to John Dramani Mahama and Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene for their leadership.
Municipal Education Director Alfred George Koomson also commended the Assembly and encouraged both staff and pupils to maintain the school facilities.
Residents welcomed the boreholes, highlighting persistent water access challenges in some areas, particularly due to pollution, and described the intervention as timely and essential.
The two-day commissioning event was attended by Presiding Member David Odoom and Municipal Coordinating Director Joyce Akosua Angmorteh.
These projects form part of a broader initiative, with 19 developments expected to be commissioned by June as the Assembly continues efforts to improve basic infrastructure in the municipality.
