The General Secretary of the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), Bernard Adjei, has confirmed that workers of the National Identification Authority (NIA) will comply with the directive from the National Labour Commission (NLC) to suspend their ongoing strike action.
NIA workers began the industrial action on Wednesday, May 13, in protest against delays in implementing migration reports linked to their conditions of service.
Speaking to Citi News, Mr Adjei said the union had accepted the NLC’s directive in good faith and indicated that staff are expected to return to work on Friday, May 15.
The directive followed a meeting held on Thursday, May 14, involving representatives of the union, the NIA and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
Mr Adjei expressed confidence that all parties involved, particularly the Ministry of Finance and the FWSC, would fulfil their commitments to resolve the matter and restore industrial peace.
He stated that the union viewed the directive as fair and would ensure that NIA workers complied by returning to their offices as instructed.
The National Labour Commission has also directed the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to facilitate approval and implementation of the migration report for NIA staff by the end of May 2026.
