    Emmanuel Sesi wins 2025 Duku Homowo Festival Cycling Race

    Emmanuel Sesi of the Royal Cycling Club emerged winner of the 2025 edition of the Duku Homowo festival cycling championship held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

    At an average speed of 36.78 km/h for 30 laps, Emmanuel Sesi finished in the time of 2:43:56, followed by Frank David Akufo Awuku in the time of 2:43:56.4 whiles Solomon Tagoe and Victor Cudjoe Akpabli finished in the time of 2:43:57s for third place.

    Over 80 riders took part in this year’s 100-kilometre championships.

    Mr Justice Awuku, Chairman of the Duku Homowo Festival Cycling Race, said he was impressed by the number of participants as compared to last year’s edition.

    He praised the riders’ speed and endurance, noting that only 23 cyclists finished the race, showcasing the competitiveness of the event.

    Mr Shaaban Mohammed, the Secretary-General of the Ghana Cycling Federation, commended the organisers for hosting a fantastic event, highlighting the growth of cycling in Ghana.

    He said this year’s Duku Cycling race was fantastic, with amazing and great spectator turnout.

    He explained that the average speed of close to 37 kilometres per hour was encouraging for the development of cycling in the country.

    The winner a took home a cash prize of GH¢ 10,000.00, while the second position also cashed out GH¢ 5,000.00, and the third position received GH¢ 3,000.00.

    The fourth to sixth positions received GH¢ 500.00 each, and the 7th to 10th positions received GH¢ 300.00 each. The total prize package for the male category was GH¢ 20,700.00.

    The Duku Festival Cycling Championship promises to return next year, with organisers aiming to make it an even bigger success.

    As Ghanaian cycling continues to grow, events like these play a crucial role in promoting the sport and nurturing talented cyclists.
