GAF Applicants Praise Smooth, Orderly Recruitment Process at Eastern Naval Base

Applicants undergoing the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercises at the Eastern Naval Base in Tema Newtown have lauded the process, describing it as peaceful, well-organised and far better than the chaotic scenes recently witnessed at the El-Wak Stadium during the Greater Accra selection.

The Eastern Naval Base was selected as a host venue for the first time as part of reforms aimed at preventing a repeat of the disturbances at El-Wak. Several applicants told the media that the new arrangement resulted in a smoother, faster and more comfortable experience. They highlighted the orderly queues, provision of chairs and reduced waiting times as significant improvements over previous years.

One applicant, Wisdom Agbene from Dome Kwabenya, noted that while El-Wak had been disorganised, the process at the Naval Base was efficient and calm. Another applicant shared that although she initially feared a repeat of last week’s incident, she completed her screening within four hours.

Lieutenant Commander Ezekiel Ako Nai, who oversees one of the selection stages, explained that applicants are first verified at the gate using their summary sheets and reporting messages, after which they proceed to documentation and body selection in batches of 30. He said there has been no congestion and an ambulance is present on-site for emergencies. About 600 applicants are expected each day from Thursday to Saturday.

He encouraged applicants yet to report to exercise patience and follow the laid-down procedures, assuring them that anyone who receives the official message and has the correct documents will be processed successfully.
