Korea Week 2026 Celebrates Growing Korean Cultural Influence in Ghana

The growing influence of Korean culture in Ghana was celebrated at the 2026 Korea Week Festival, held at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, where students, performers, and cultural enthusiasts gathered for a day of language, music, and cultural exchange.

Organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ghana, the annual festival featured a Korean Speech Contest, a K-Pop Festival, and a Cultural Exchange Programme, highlighting the strengthening cultural ties between Ghana and the Republic of Korea.

Addressing participants, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ghana, H.E. Park Kyong-sig, said the increasing interest in Korean culture among Ghanaians reflects the growing friendship between the two countries.

“The Korean Wave is very strong around the world, and Ghana is no exception,” Ambassador Park said.

He noted that the Korea Week Festival has continued to attract larger audiences and more participants each year, with more Ghanaians becoming interested in Korean language, music, and traditions.

According to the Ambassador, the festival has grown beyond a cultural celebration into a platform for strengthening bilateral relations through people-to-people connections.

“These audiences and contestants will serve as a bridge between Korea and Ghana, helping to strengthen our relationship,” he added.

The event brought together students from various universities, Korean language learners, K-pop fans, and members of the public who participated in competitions and performances showcasing Korean culture.

The growing global popularity of the Korean Wave (Hallyu), driven by K-pop, Korean dramas, films, cuisine, and fashion, has contributed to increased interest in Korean culture among young Ghanaians.

Organisers described Korea Week as one of the Embassy’s flagship cultural diplomacy initiatives in Ghana, providing opportunities for educational exchange, cultural learning, and stronger cooperation between both nations.

They expressed optimism that the festival will continue to promote mutual understanding and deepen the longstanding friendship between Ghana and the Republic of Korea.
