The Central Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation has appealed for immediate humanitarian assistance for victims affected by tidal waves in Moree within the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District.
The coastal community has experienced severe tidal wave activity over the past three days, leading to widespread destruction of homes and displacement of several residents.
Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Monday, May 18, Central Regional NADMO Director Kwesi Dawood stressed the need for urgent relief items and support for affected families who have lost their homes and belongings.
He also renewed calls for the construction of a permanent sea defence wall to help protect the community from repeated tidal wave disasters.
According to Mr. Dawood, the incident is a climate-related disaster that demands coordinated efforts from government agencies, development partners, and other stakeholders.
He further noted that beyond immediate relief support, long-term solutions such as reviving the stalled sea defence project and implementing broader climate intervention measures are necessary to prevent future occurrences in the area.
