Telecel Ghana has commissioned and handed over a fully equipped 42-unit computer laboratory to the University of Ghana to enhance digital learning, research and innovation at the country’s leading public university.
The facility, which forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, was established in response to a request from the university’s leadership and reflects Telecel Ghana’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s digital education development.
The new laboratory is fitted with modern computers, an 86-inch interactive touchscreen display and dedicated internet connectivity to support practical learning and research activities.
Telecel Ghana has maintained a longstanding partnership with the University of Ghana since 2010, providing internet connectivity, leased line services and other tertiary digital solutions. The company also indicated plans to expand network capacity to meet the increasing demand for digital teaching, learning and research.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony held at the university’s IT Directorate, Telecel Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai, described the initiative as a gesture of appreciation to one of the company’s key institutional partners.
She said the project demonstrates Telecel’s belief that digital inclusion requires not only reliable connectivity but also access to devices, skills and suitable environments that enable people to maximise technology.
The University of Ghana’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Gordon Awandare, expressed gratitude to Telecel Ghana for the support, noting that the facility will contribute significantly to the university’s digital transformation efforts and improve students’ learning experiences.
Acting Director of Enterprise Business at Telecel Ghana, Nii Lartey, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving connectivity services and investing in digital solutions that benefit students, faculty and the wider university community.
The new laboratory is expected to provide students with improved access to digital resources, strengthen collaborative learning and support hands-on training across various disciplines.
Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President, Richmond Ofori Larbi, commended the initiative, describing it as an investment in students’ digital future beyond simply providing computers.
The project forms part of Telecel Ghana’s wider efforts to promote education, STEM development, digital skills training and access to technology as part of Ghana’s drive towards building a digitally empowered workforce.
