About 63 people were injured after an Iranian missile and drone attack struck Kuwait International Airport on June 3, causing major damage to the facility and disrupting flight operations, according to Kuwaiti authorities. Reports also indicate that at least one person was killed in the attack.
The strike targeted civilian infrastructure, including the airport’s Terminal 1 building and diplomatic facilities, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions despite a ceasefire announced earlier this year. The damage forced authorities to divert flights and temporarily suspend airport operations.
Kuwait’s civil aviation authority said the airport sustained extensive damage, although some services later resumed after safety inspections. National carrier Kuwait Airways restarted selected flights from Terminal 4.
Kuwait’s Defence Ministry condemned the attack, describing it as an act of aggression that caused injuries and significant damage to civilian facilities. Those affected reportedly received medical treatment, while authorities continued to assess the full extent of the damage.
The attack was part of a broader wave of Iranian missile and drone strikes targeting Gulf states. U.S. military officials said several projectiles either failed to reach their targets or were intercepted by defence systems. In response, U.S. forces launched retaliatory strikes against targets on Iran’s Qeshm Island and intercepted additional incoming threats across the region.
The renewed hostilities have raised concerns about regional security, aviation safety, and the stability of energy markets, with oil prices reacting to fears of further escalation in the Gulf.
